A patient, formally daring work — the cinematography lingers on empty rooms longer than most audiences will tolerate, but those who stay are rewarded with the most haunting final act of the year.
Back in 1987 a young Dennis Redford Berdella killed two civilians in an attempt to hijack a local radio station, the attempt was unsuccessful leading to his arrest and multiple lifetime sentences. 5 weeks ago Dennis Redford Berdella disappeared from his holding cell without a trace. 4 weeks ago, local radio station General Manager Stacey Reznor goes missing, with her last reported sighting from within the Triad Woods. The surrounding community search for her, but she is never found. Now, late night radio host Cliff Warne unsuspecting of any special guests for the show ahead of us, finds a marked mixtape in the radio station, labeled PLAYTIME... dated back to that one night... back to 1987.

3 featuredI walked in expecting another genre exercise and walked out feeling like I'd been eavesdropping on a confession. The lead performance is genuinely singular — a career-defining turn.
A few too many scenes feel borrowed from a better film, but the soundtrack and the production design carry the rest. Solid recommendation for fans of slow-burn European thrillers.
